Book Club Pt. 1
This past week the monthly Comic Hunter Book Club met for the first time! For those of you who haven't heard of it yet, we're going to be meeting every 4 weeks on Wednesday night to talk about a pre-selected graphic novel.
This month, we all read Cowboy Ninja Viking Vol. 1. While feelings were mostly positive, with most enjoying the quirky story, and not reading too much into the pretty unbelievable premise, many people thought the art could be a little distracting, whether it was the odd choice in color scheme, or the lack in coherence in the "flashbacks". Another factor that came up, which is both a positive and a negative, is the fact that the story was originally meant to be a mini-series, but after a good startup response, was upgraded to on-going status. While this is great news for those who want more story, it did create a problem in the narrative flow. It was obvious at times that the writer had a concrete ending planned for the story, but had to change it halfway to be able to continue the story once the first arc was done.
If you enjoy the art, and don't mind a few plot holes, this was a really good action story with a very different idea. Lets just hope the writer can flesh out his characters, and the artist falls into a groove for his storytelling for the next arcs!
Coming up next!
We've got our next few books chosen, so if you're interested in joining, you can buy them through the store, or you can always check out local public library to see if the books are available there!

ReplyDeleteBa-throom!!!! :D
It was a good start and quite a bit of fun. I really hope we can keep the momentum going for next month. It's a run I've always heard about but never read.
